Be a-historicalPosted by: Michael Port
|
Someone who can simultaneously transcend their history to achieve goals well beyond their standard expectations, while at the same time respecting and incorporating the best of what they’ve learned from their past, is a-historical.
My next book, titled Beyond Booked Solid: Your Business, Your Life, Your Way--It's All Inside, is being released by Wiley in April. Among other things, it suggests a way of engaging in the world that will keep you innovating, creating (and re-creating) the business you want... so that your future is based, not on rebellious acts in response to the past, but rather, on what you want to create by re-configuring what you already have and adding something new.
Lori sent me an article about her son, Leon Hayward, a former professional hockey player who has done just that. Read it. Leon has a way of being that makes his future a-historical. Also, notice how his like-ability factor relates to his options. Oh, and, to add on to my last post about mastery... another reason Leon will be successful after hockey is because he understands how to transfer the pursuit of mastery from one domain to another domain. It's just this understanding, and way of being, that gives him a framework through which to approach learning new skills. I'm sure Lori is one proud mom.

You are so right Michael! The past is just that PASSED! That was then and this is now. Now we design our future.
Your mind creates your vision and your vision creates your reality.
This is such a difficult lesson to learn and I have certainly had to learn it the hard way as have so many others.
