Full disclosure... I put my name, Seth's name and "marketing gurus" in the title for natural search optimization... of course, Seth did publicly endorse this software... but I used these keyword phrases because this post is about the latest in how to use the least utilized, most promising keywords that are hidden in the Long Tail of your natural search results. 

What the heck does that mean? It means having the real-time ability to see what keywords and phrases people are searching for to get to your site. It's way better than anything like Overature or Wordtracker because it gives you real-time results of the under utilized, most promising keywords real potential clients, customers and readers are using to actually get to your site.

Why is this useful? Because if you know what people are actually searching for, then you can then create more content around those topics and optimize the content accordingly.

What HitTail allows you to do, is take advantage of the Long Tail of search results. It's probably not the big three keywords that are going to get you noticed. You probably can't even get on the board for the big three keywords in your market. But that's ok. If you can optimize, with good content, around the least utilized but most promising keywords in the Long Tail of your natural (organic) search results, you might even be able to get more traffic then those who sit on top of Google for the competitive keywords in your market.

Of course, HitTail is built with sophisticated algorithms and patent-pending technology. I have idea how it works but it does. It's currently in beta so it's free and it's really easy.

Just look at the natural search results that drove traffic to my site and my blog in about an hour this morning. Notice all these results are not from one big keyword. They are from unusual search queries but when you add them up (and these are just a few of them) it's a lot of traffic. Of course, they key is to convert that traffic to readers, subscribers, etc. But that's for another post.

The most important point to take away is that these results are what people are actually using to get to my site. Being listed for a keyword that doesn't actually produce new site visitors doesn't mean much. Sure it'll give you bragging rights but not website visitors.
